I don't know if you caught last night's Meltdown Nation Call - Solving the Energy Crisis, but it really hit home with me. Adam shared his tips and experience with energy levels, specifically caffeine use, sleep paterns, and supplements.
So, why did it home for me? Well, I always learn something new on these calls, but let me paint a picture for you... I was listening to the call on speakerphone in my car in the Starbucks drive thru when he started talking about daily caffeine intake. There were a few empty energy can drinks cluttering my front seat with my sugar free gum - all part of my survival kit! While I have actually scaled back my own caffeine use in the last few months, I never actually calculated what my normal intake was until last night - a healthy exercise for anyone! I certainly don't want to have to keep increasing my intake for that buzz I count on at 5:30 a.m. My heart and stress levels are also on my mind, I am already jumpy by nature, I don't need that extra jitter!
Today I replaced my iced black tea with a caffeine free herbal tea (albeit, it is "chocolate strawberry", so that helped the situation). I'll be monitoring my intake as part of my daily nutrition, a habit I am already using to improve my health on a daily basis. As someone who identifies as a food addict, it isn't surprising that I find myself addicted to caffeine and suspect that many of our clients could easily find themselves in the same situation. You are working so hard, probably to lose weight, but ultimately to be HEALTHY and this is certainly a big part of that. Regardless of if I am addicted or not (I AM), scaling back is going to be a good practice in mental strength AND benefit my body, so here goes nothing! Make sure I am stocked up on sugar-free gum and Powerade Zero this week!
If you missed the call, I am considering this one a MUST LISTEN for Meltdowners. Here is the link, it should also be up on iTunes soon:
