Transformation Sweet Spot: August-October

I’m sure that many of you have realized or experienced first hand that there is a definite seasonal fitness calendar that occurs throughout the year. Here at NGPT we also have what we call a Transformation Calendar and we are getting ready to enter what I consider to be the sweet spot where you can really make some awesome things happen.

First let’s look at a typical person’s fitness from a yearly perspective.

Phase One: January-Spring Break…….This is where the typical person is super motivated to get in shape and make positive fitness and lifestyle changes. It all starts in January with some new year’s resolutions and then the motivation stays high as you prepare to show some skin on the beaches of the world during spring break.

Phase Two: May-July…..This is when people tend to lose a little bit of motivation in general. There are lots of vacations and other events that keep people very busy and fitness can take a back seat.

Phase Three: August-October…….This is decision time! People see the holiday season looming ahead and they must make a decision to either build some positive momentum OR cash in their chips and just wait to do something about it in January.

Phase Four: The Holiday Season (Nov/Dec)…..This is the time of year when the average person will pack on the LBS. Health and fitness usually take a back seat as people are bombarded with cold weather, holiday parties, and lots of FOOD!

Now like I said, we have our own calendar that we use when we look at helping our clients start a transformation and it is all about building positive momentum at key times. I consider August, September, and October to be the most important months of the entire year. WHY?….because that is where the rest of your year can be set up! Our local clients seem to really understand that this is a crucial time of the year and we see our group fitness classes, boot camps, and other programs start to get packed! Some of our best long term transformations have been launched during this time frame also!

So let’s say that you get involved with a boot camp, group classes, personal training, or another fitness adventure during this critical three month window. You will be gaining momentum with your transformation and seeing positive results. You will also be establishing healthy habits and a new lifestyle during three months where social pressure to eat bad food is a little lower. The kids are back in school and a normal fitness routine can be established.

When you have a successful August-October you will head into the holiday season in a good frame of mind. Your willpower will be at an all time high and you can resist many of the holiday temptations. Many of our clients will continue to lose weight or at least maintain results during the holiday season. That is WAY better than packing on the normal 10-20lbs that most people will see.

Next you hit January and everyone else around you gets excited about health and fitness as they enter Phase One like I described above. This helps to catapult your own momentum even more.

So my expert advice is this: Get Plugged IN during August-October. Find a program or fitness product that fires you up and start building momentum during this time of year. You will reap the rewards for the rest of the year! Make sure that you work to establish both nutritional AND exercise habits during this time frame to make the most of your time and get the best transformation results.
